| Seagate 3TB Barracuda XT Hard Drive Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:46 AM PST Seagate ships 3TB Barracuda XT internal hard drive that plays nice with software that makes it possible to bypass the 2TB limit of Windows PCs running older BIOS.Barracuda XT ships with Seagate’s DiscWizard software that makes it easy to configure the OS to enable full 3TB capacity support…….. Hard disk manufacturer Seagate has started shipping its 3TB Barracuda XT internal hard disk drive (HDD) that can work with Windows XP and legacy PC BIOS, which had been said to be incompatible with the largest Terabyte capacity hard disk drives.Maybe it was the Millennium bug, but the IT industry had been awash with claims that HDDs above 2.1TB could not be used by most of yesterday’s older PC BIOS and obsolescent Windows computers.However Seagate’s 3.5-inch, 7200RPM 3TB Barracuda XT overcomes that glitch with software called Discwizard that allows a user to configure the computer operating system for a 3TB HDD. Discwizard can be downloaded for free from Seagate’s website. On top of that, Windows computers that use BIOS (basic input/output system)-based motherboards which are the majority of computers on the market, can’t boot from a volume that’s larger than 2.19TB, either, because of the limitation of BIOS protocols. While this problem can be solved in the near future by replacing MBR with GUID Partition Table and BIOS with the new Extensible Firmware Interface, there are still many existing computers, especially those that run Windows XP, that would miss out on the top storage capacity. Once the OS has been installed on the new hard drive on a partition that the OS can recognize, which is smaller than 3TB, you can install DiscWizard which includes special drivers that allow the OS to recognize the rest of the hard drive’s capacity and turn that into a second partition.In other words, you will be able to use the 3TB Barracuda XT with Windows XP, as a main hard drive, in two separate partitions that total 3TB, but not as a single 3TB volume. While this is not a perfect solution, it’s a good one, considering that Western Digital‘s 3TB hard drive requires an add-in card and still can only work as a secondary hard drive in a computer. On the other hand iOS developer and hacker iH8sn0w and jcf_dev have released PwnageTool bundles to jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. If you want to jailbreak your iPod touch 4G / 3G on iOS 4.3 GM Using PwnageTool here’s a complete step by step guideline given. The instructions for both iPod touch 4G and 3G are exactly same as the ones for iPad. | Jailbreak iPad on iOS 4.3 GM Using PwnageTool[How To] Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:02 AM PST Apple already released iOS 4.3 GM (Gold Master) which is the final release of iOS 4.3 before it hits iDevice users on March 11th. Couple of days ago, we published a step by step guide on jailbreaking the iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3 GM by using the PwnageTool. Now here we have a detailed guide on jailbreaking iPad running on iOS 4.3 GM by using PwnageTool Bundles. Necessary tools: * PwnageTool 4.2 The steps are as follows: Step 1: Download PwnageTool 4.2 from the link given below, copy it to application directory and click on "show package contents" after right click on the PwnageTool 4.2. Step 2: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPad1,1_4.3_8F190.bundle file in this location. Step 3: Download PwnageTool Bundle for iPad and paste in the above FirmwareBundles folder and simply close the folder. Creating Custom Ramdisk for iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Step 4: Download Universal Ramdisk Maker and simply install it as shown in the screenshots below. This is important because Ramdisk in the current version of PwnageTool is broken. This Universal Ramdisk Maker basically patches it correctly for iOS 4.3 firmware. Building iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Step 5: Download iOS 4.3 GM from the link given below and move it to a particular folder. Step 6: Run PwnageTool in "expert mode" and click on your idevice. Step 7: You will be asked to select iOS 4.3 GM for your device. Select iOS 4.3 GM and click on open. Step 8: Simply click on button "Build". Step 9: Let the PwnageTool do its work. It will cook custom iOS 4.3 FW for your device. Step 10: Once the process completed, simply click on "Quit". Restore iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware on iPad Using iTunes Step 11: Keep your iPad connected with your Mac and run iTunes 10.2. Step 12: Simply select your device, press and hold the option button from your keyboard and click on "Restore" button on the screen. You will be asked for the custom FW of iOS 4.3 GM select it and click on "Open". Booting in Tethered Mode Step 13: Download "TetheredBoot" from the link given below and unzip the .zip file. Step 14: First, we will need two files from the custom iOS 4.3 GM firmware for iPad namely: kernelcache.release.k48 and iBSS.k48ap.RELEASE.dfu. To do this, make a copy of your custom iOS 4.3 GM file that you created above, change the extension of this file from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file. Now copy kernelcache.release.k48 file, and then copy iBSS.k48ap.RELEASE.dfu files which are found under /Firmware/dfu/. Move all these files, and tetheredboot utility to a new folder named "tetheredboot" on the desktop. Step 15: Turn off the power o your device and run Terminal app on your Mac and run this command. sudo -s cd /User/Desktop/Tetherboot/ ./tetheredbootiBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu kernelcache.release.n90 and simply follow the instructions appearing on the screen. You should now see some code running in the Terminal window, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Follow the steps as illustrated in Step 8 above to enter DFU mode on iPad. Now wait for your iPad to boot, Terminal at this point will be showing "Exiting libpois0n" message. After a short while, your iPad will be booted in a jailbroken tethered mode !    | ||

When Google introduced mobile editing in Google Docs last year, they launched the ability to edit mobile docs in English.The company has been consistently adding features to its word processing program. In January, Google streamlined the service, revamping the way files are organized to make it easier to display and preview documents. Google Docs also recently added the ability to play video, and it’s been rumored, but not confirmed that a music player would also be incorporated.Google launched mobile editing for the program in November. To edit Google Docs on your mobile phone, you must have a device running on Android Froyo 2.2 or higher or an iPad or iPhone running on iOS 3.0 or higher. “With Google Docs, we’re always trying to make you more productive – and part of that means making it possible for you to get things done from anywhere, at anytime,” Google software engineer Andrew Grieve blogged when the company launched mobile editing.To edit a document, open the browser on your phone and go to docs.google.com. | FaceTime Restored on Vodafone Egyptian iPhones Posted: 06 Mar 2011 11:47 PM PST Vodafone Egypt has restored the FaceTime on iPhone with carrier support for MC605AB and MC603AB models. FaceTime has reactivated by a Carrier Update (version 10.1 for Vodafone Egypt). According to SaudiMac, all the devices are getting FaceTime activation via carrier update so you do not need to do anything. This news was semi-confirmed through the twitter accounts of @houssini and @SadekHM. It was then confirmed by Vodafone Egypt's official twitter account. Mohammed Lubbad checked the RegionFeatures regional restrictions file and noticed that Apple didn't change it in iOS 4.3 GM. However Vodafone's Carrier Update file included a boolean key named AllowsVoIP and it's set to "on". AllowsVoIP overwrites NOVOIP found in RegionFeatures file. So it is possible to enable FaceTime on iPhone 4 units sold by Mobily and STC. It also means that it's possible for a carrier to release a settings file with AllowsVoIP set to off and disable FaceTime on any iPhone 4 on their network.    | ||

Though Pwn2Own mostly concerns to the PCs and laptops but this year it seems that it will be also hacked to hacking activities on mobile devices. According to Pwn2Own spokesperson: This year we are excited to announce we have increased the attack surface eligible for a successful hack against the mobile phone targets. We will have a base station on-site so that competitors will be able to perform attacks against the cell phone basebands. Due to the sensitive nature of the vulnerabilities we expect and the fact that an attack would require the exploit to be transmitted over RF, we will have this nifty RF enclosure from Ramsey Electronics on hand for testing. This device has a built-in video recording feature and we plan on publishing the feed after the contest has ended. The organizers of Pwn2Own are planning to attempt the following devices and some Internet applications. * Dell Venue Pro running Windows Phone 7 The following individuals are attempting the listed devices and Internet applications. * Apple Safari: VUPEN, Anon_07, Team Anon, Charlie Miller Geohot joked on his personal blog in January that he planned to purchase a Windows Phone 7 device and immediately caught Microsoft's attention. Brandon Watson, Director of Developer Experience for Windows Phone, posted a tweet promising a free Windows Phone if Hotz wanted to "build cool stuff on #wp7″. Hotz and two other teams named Team Anonymous and Anonymous_1 will attempt to break into the Dell Venue Pro running Windows Phone 7 next week. Geohot is known for his ability to jailbreak both the iPhone and PlayStation 3. Hotz is currently being pursued by Sony who sued him over 8 counts of DMCA violation. We'll have to wait until next week to see if he is successful, but given his past success there's a good chance that Windows Phone could be compromised. The news was confirmed through Mathieulh twitter's account: From his tweet: I hesitated a lot before tweeting about it, but a bug allows exploiting metldr, the bootloader and 3.56+. I don't intent to ever unveil it. With Sony planning to release an 'un-hackable' PS3, it's interesting to see that new holes are still being discovered in the console's latest firmware. It's even more interesting that Hervais doesn't plan to release a working hack. Unfortunately, Sony's impact on Geohot's case has made him scared and he refuses to release it that means the world will miss another exploit!    | ||
