Access Your iPhone’s Photos From Any Browser With WiFi Photo Transfer [App Review]

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 04:06 AM PDT

Wi-Fi Photo Transfer is a free app that makes it insanely simple to download photos from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. This app is available on Apps store.The best part is that you dont need to have a jailbroken device.

There isn’t a single setting to alter once you download the app. It works by making the photos folder on your device (DCIM, if you’re an iOS explorer) visible from your web browser so you can download photos straight to your computer. Your computer and device must be on the same Wi-Fi network for this to work.

You can view all your photos in a convenient thumbnail view to select multiple items, or you can download them one by one (in various sizes, too).

Download it Free from App store.

Save SHSH Blobs Of iOS 4.3.1 Using TinyUmbrella Before You Upgrade To iOS 4.3.2

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 03:55 AM PDT

With the release of iOS 4.3.2 for iPhone 4, iPHone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iOS 4.2.7 for CDMA Verizon iPhone 4, It is highly recommended to save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.3.1 before you upgrade to iSO 4.3.2. Notcom has already updated his Tiny Umbrella tool. It supports the latest iOS 4.3.1 firmware. TinyUmbrella 4.30.05 allows you to save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.3.1.

For those who don’t know, SHSH Blob is a signature verification file against Apple Server. It verifies that the iDevice is running the latest version of iOS. Saving SHSH blobs will allow you to restore to previous version. While doing so Apple will stop you doing the restore process. To make this happen you have send a request to different servers which forwards SHSH blobs to iTunes by just showing it that its a new version of iOS. This is how TinyUmbrella or iSHSHIT works to help you save SHSH blobs.

Jailbreakers & Unlockers Stay Away From iOS 4.3.2 [MuscleNerd Warned]

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 03:44 AM PDT

Apple has already released iOS 4.3.2 for iPhone 4, iPHone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iOS 4.2.7 for CDMA Verizon iPhone 4. MuscleNerd tweeted earlier a very important status, detailing to stay away and save your 4.3.1 SHSH blobs. Ultrasn0w unlockers should completely aviod this update at all costs!

ultrasn0w unlockers stay away from today's iOS 4.3.2! Everyone else, make sure you have your 4.3.1 SHSH blobs saved.
Apple sure is aggressively patching these untethered jailbreaks lately (but that's still better than lawsuits)

Either a beginner or an advanced user, you should make sure to save your SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella. In the eventuality that you'd want to downgrade to a previous firmware later on, this quick operation will make that possible.

Apple has already released iOS 4.3.2 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. The just released iOS 4.3.2 firmware update for iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 3G/4G has been successfully jailbroken using custom PwnageTool bundles.

iOS 4.3.2 includes fixes for the iPad 3G connectivity and FaceTime issues.

Here's what you will need:

* PwnageTool 4.3
* iOS 4.3.2 firmware
* iTunes 10.2.1
* Mac OS X
* PwnageTool bundle for iOS 4.3.2
* tetheredboot utility

The steps are as follows.

Step 1: Download PwnageTool bundle for your version of iOS device. Extract the .zip folder, in there you will find a .bundle file, for this guide, we are using iPhone 4 bundle iPhone3,1_4.3.2_8H7.bundle. Move this file to your desktop.

Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.3 and copy it to /Applications directory. Right click, and then click on "Show Package Contents".

Step 3: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPhone3,1_4.3.2_8H7.bundle file.

Step 4: Download iOS 4.3.2 firmware. Move this file to your desktop.

Step 5: Start PwnageTool in "Expert mode" and select your device.

Step 6: Browse for iOS 4.3.2 firmware for your device.

Step 7: Now select "Build" to start creating custom 4.3.2 firmware file.

Step 8: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

Step 9: Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode using PwnageTool:

* Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
* Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
* You device should now be in DFU mode

Step 10: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left "alt" (option) button on Mac, or Left "Shift" button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on "Restore" (Not "Update" or "Check for Update") button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.3.2 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file that you created above, and click on "Open".

Step 11: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don't do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.3.2 on your iOS device. Your iOS device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, your iOS device will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.2.

Step 12: Download tetheredboot.zip utility for Mac OS X and extract the .zip file.

Step 13: First, we will need two files from the custom iOS 4.3.2 firmware namely: kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu. To do this, make a copy of your custom iOS 4.3.2 file that you created above, change the extension of this file from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.

Now copy kernelcache.release.n90 file, and then copy iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu files which are found under /Firmware/dfu/.

Move all these files, and tetheredboot utility to a new folder named "tetheredboot" on the desktop.

Step 14: Turn off your iOS device, and start Terminal on OS X and run the following commands:

sudo -s

enter your administrator password, then:

/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/tetheredboot
/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu
/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/kernelcache.release.n90

You will have to of course replace "TaimurAsad" with the name of the directory on your computer.

now press enter.

NOTE: If the above fails, try 'tetheredboot -i ibss -k kernel' instead of 'tetheredboot ibss kernel':

/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/tetheredboot –i
/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu -k
/Users/TaimurAsad/Desktop/tetheredboot/kernelcache.release.n90

Tip: Simply drag and drop in Terminal – tetheredboot file, then iBSS file and then kernelcache.release file.

You should now see some code running in the Terminal window, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:

* Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
* Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds

Downgrade iOS 4.3.2 to 4.3.1, 4.3, 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch[How To]

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 01:54 AM PDT

Apple has already released iOS 4.3.2 for iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and iPod touch 4G/3G today. If you have not upgraded to iOS 4.3.2 yet, you MUST save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.3.1 before you update to iOS 4.3.2. In case you have upgraded to iOS 4.3.2 and now want to downgrade it back to iOS 4.3.1 / iOS 4.3/ iOS 4.2.1 / iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.0 / iOS 4.0.x, you have come to the right place.

NOTE: This guide will only work if you have SHSH blobs saved for the respective firmware you downgrading to.

Step 1: Download the required old ipsw firmware files.

* iOS 4.3.1
* iOS 4.3
* iOS 4.2.1
* iOS 4.1
* iOS 4.0.2
* iOS 4.0.1

Step 2: Put your device into DFU mode.

* Connect your iOS device to your computer.
* Turn it off.
* Start iTunes.
* Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
* Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
* iTunes will now recognize your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Step 3: Now trick iTunes into thinking that it is watching Apple servers, while in real, we are going to change the address to Saurik's server. To do this:

* Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate "hosts" file.

Mac OS X users can get to "/etc/" directory by going through "Go –> Go to Folder" from Finder.

* Open this "hosts" file in Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac OS X) and add this

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Now simply save this file and you are good to go!

NOTE for Windows 7 and Vista: Start "Notepad" with Administrator privileges by right clicking on "Notepad" app, and click on "Run as Administrator" option.

NOTE for Mac OS X: Make sure you have full read and write access on your account when you are saving the host file. If it still throws permission error, simply copy the host file to desktop, make the required changes, and then replace it with the original file in "/etc/" directory.

Step 4: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left "alt" (option) button on Mac, or Left "Shift" button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on "Restore" (Not "Update" or "Check for Update") button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your iOS 4.3.1, iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1 or 4.1 firmware file. Select the desired ipsw file and click on "Open" to restore your iOS device.

Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don't do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the requested firmware on your iOS device. Your device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. Once done, it will reboot automatically.

Now in some cases while restoring to iOS 4.3.1, iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1 or 4.1, iTunes might throw 1013 error at you as shown in the screenshot below. This is normal, just ignore this error as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.

Incase of the above mentioned error, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be stuck in Recovery Mode, showing that "Connect to iTunes" screen.

To exit your device from Recovery Mode, download this program called TinyUmbrella (Windows/Mac), and Fix Recovery (Windows/Mac). Run it and the click on "Exit Recovery" button. Your device will now restart normally.

That’s it.

Cable-free Charging of Electric Cars Via Coils

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 01:07 AM PDT

BMW and Siemens partnering for wireless-charging EVs with cable-free charging of electric cars via coils.In theory these can be installed into parking lots, taxi queues and of course driveways sunk right into the ground out of sight and mind………

In the future, motorists will no longer need a cable to recharge the batteries of their electric cars, thanks to a development project for inductive charging, which Siemens presented at Hannover Messe 2011. Developed in cooperation with BMW, this non-contact technology also works if drivers only make a short stop to recharge. The associated charging stations can be easily incorporated into practically any setting, making them nearly invisible and effectively protecting them against vandalism and wear and tear. In June 2011, the system’s capabilities will be tested in a project funded by the German Environment Ministry and involving several vehicles in Berlin.A big obstacle to the expansion of electric mobility is the lack of an extensive and reliable charging infrastructure. Because electric cars have to recharge their batteries more often than vehicles with combustion engines need to refuel, various charging techniques are required that are adapted to the needs of the drivers and vehicles. Siemens‘ inductive energy transmission concept would make it possible to automatically recharge vehicles such as taxis waiting at cab stands.

The charging station is connected to the public grid by a primary coil that is completely underground. A secondary coil is attached to the car and the distance between the two coils is typically between eight and 15 centimeters. When the driver starts the charging process, an electric current begins to flow through the primary coil. The resulting magnetic field induces an electric current in the secondary coil, which recharges the battery. Electricity is transmitted from the grid through all of the components to the battery at an efficiency of more than 90 percent. The magnetic field is generated only in an exactly predetermined area between the two coils. The system therefore generates a magnetic field whose strength in and around the vehicle is far below the internationally recommended limit of 6.25 microteslas.Starting in May, a prototype with a charging power of 3.6 kilowatts will be tested in an electric vehicle. Beginning in June, the test will be followed by trials in Berlin to determine which improvements are needed to integrate the system into series-produced vehicles under real-life conditions and to obtain customer feedback for future customer-oriented charging solutions. The system also enables the smart use of energy, whereby the car also serves as a storage unit and most of the energy is surplus electricity from solar and wind power facilities. At Hannover Messe, Siemens presented its complete range of electric mobility systems from the Energy (charging stations, smart grid technology) and Industry (electric motors) sectors.

NFC Smart Poster Tags For Google Places Service

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 12:09 AM PDT

Google expands NFC check-ins, clutters more restaurant windows and the once-upon-a-search company is expanding its NFC check-in program to four new cities.The company wants to be the best in the location-based service market and NFC is its crane kick, while Foursquare and Facebook users are forced to do silly things like track down the right business in an endless list of nearby results or try and focus their cellphone’s camera on a dimly lit QR code…………

ACiG Technology, a supplier and distributor of RFID products and a business unit of  Identive Group Inc.announced that is has been selected as the exclusive supplier of near field communication (NFC) RFID stickers for the roll out of Google‘s marketing campaign for Google Places in Austin, Texas. The NFC stickers are manufactured by ACiG’s sister company Smartag.Google is currently distributing the 80x50mm stickers to local business owners throughout Austin to help them promote their products and services and encourage people to rate and review the businesses on Google‘s new local recommendation engine. The smart stickers are utilized to convert conventional advertising posters to connected smart posters. Consumers with NFC-enabled mobile phones who have downloaded the Google Places app can simply touch their devices to the stickers to access all kinds of relevant information about a local business from across the web such as its address, phone number, hours of operation, payment types, helpful reviews and more. Consumers can rate or review the business right from the webpage on the mobile device, and then receive more personalized local recommendations in their search results based on their opinions and those of their friends.Bernardo Hernandez, senior director of consumer marketing for Google, said, “NFC-enabled stickers are an integral part of our outreach efforts to local Austin businesses as they demonstrate the effectiveness of Internet spot marketing and help consumers quickly discover more information about a business. About 20 percent of all searches on Google are for local information, and NFC technology delivered by Smartag smart stickers enables really interesting ways to connect Austin locals and visitors with the businesses in the area.”"As a manufacturer and distributor of core RFID technology, we see many market trends develop from their earliest stages,” said Roger Hornstra, President U.S., ACiG Technology. “Smart posters are expected to be a tremendous growth area in B to C marketing and we are excited to work with Google as it pioneers this exciting application of NFC technology.”

Intel And Micron Announce New 20nm NAND Flash

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 11:30 PM PDT

Intel and Micron extend NAND Flash technology leadership, introduce industry’s smallest and most advanced 20-Nanometer process and this new 20nm, 8-gigabyte device delivers highest capacity in smallest form factor for tablets, smartphones, SSDs and Other consumer and compute devices.IM Flash Technologies leads the industry with 20nm process and quick transitions of the entire fab network and this device measuring just 118mm2, the 8GB MLC NAND device provides high capacity for smartphones, tablets, SSDs and more……..

Intel Corporation and Micron Technology Inc. ntroduced a new, finer 20-nanometer (nm) process technology for manufacturing NAND flash memory. The new 20nm process produces an 8-gigabyte (GB) multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash device, providing a high-capacity, small form factor storage option for saving music, video, books and other data on smartphones, tablets and computing solutions such as solid-state drives (SSDs).The growth in data storage combined with feature enhancements for tablets and smartphones is creating new demands for NAND flash technology, especially greater capacity in smaller designs. The new 20nm 8GB device measures just 118mm2 and enables a 30 to 40 percent reduction in board space (depending on package type) compared to the companies’ existing 25nm 8GB NAND device. A reduction in the flash storage layout provides greater system level efficiency as it enables tablet and smartphone manufacturers to use the extra space for end-product improvements such as a bigger battery, larger screen or adding another chip to handle new features.

Manufactured by IM Flash Technologies (IMFT), Intel and Micron‘s NAND flash joint venture, the new 20nm 8GB device is a breakthrough in NAND process and technology design, further extending the companies’ lithography leadership. Shrinking NAND lithography to this technology node is the most cost-effective method for increasing fab output, as it provides approximately 50 percent more gigabyte capacity from these factories when compared to current technology. The new 20nm process maintains similar performance and endurance as the previous generation 25nm NAND technology.“Close customer collaboration is one of Micron‘s core values and through these efforts we are constantly uncovering compelling end-product design opportunities for NAND flash storage,” said Glen Hawk, vice president of Micron’s NAND Solutions Group. “Our innovation and growth opportunities continue with the 20nm NAND process, enabling Micron to deliver cost-effective, value-added solid-state storage solutions for our customers.”"Our goal is to enable instant, affordable access to the world’s information,” said Tom Rampone, vice president and general manager, Intel Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group. “Industry-leading NAND gives Intel the ability to provide the highest quality and most cost-effective solutions to our customers, generation after generation. The Intel-Micron joint venture is a model for the manufacturing industry as we continue to lead the industry in process technology and make quick transitions of our entire fab network to smaller and smaller lithographies.”The 20nm, 8GB device is sampling now and expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2011. At that time, Intel and Micron also expect to unveil samples of a 16GB device, creating up to 128GBs of capacity in a single solid-state storage solution that is smaller than a U.S. postage stamp.

Larry Page Expected To Deliver Good Financial Results on Q1

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 02:12 PM PDT

As it has already been in the news for a while, Larry Page became the new CEO of Google Inc. earlier this month. The 38 year old was the co-founder of the internet search giant. Since the introduction, Google has been a great success.

Upon appointing the previous CEO, Eric Schmidt, it became more profitable day by day. Even as of now, past seven quarters out of eight has seen great profits. The legacy is expected to continue with the upcoming report from the company after the market closes today.

With Page as CEO, a lot of people are expecting major management decisions and innovations in the way the company has been running. But all that is similarly important as the financial success of the company. Competitions like social networking giant Facebook has made critics a bit anxious about the future profits with this company.

All these reflect quite unusually to the fact that Google Inc. is a very big company with over twenty four thousand employees. Managing them is not going to be an easy task for Page, along with the upcoming recruitment competition between them and Facebook again putting these two head to head.

If Google is to win this with Page as the lead General, they will have to come up with something that is more lucrative to users rather than Facebook. The continuous development is also going to be a great inspiration to all those that are monitoring or worried the stock prices compared to that of Facebook.

Call Your Facebook friends For Free

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 02:10 PM PDT

There are many apps that provide some sort of social media integration. Some of these allow you to stay online on many networks via one app alone. Some of these allow you to manage some of the features to ensure you have the ability to go online or offline for different contacts.

Some even offered free calling service. But mostly, this free calling service was totally dependent on the fact that the other party had to have an account or the same software. But all that has changed with the introduction of this new app called JaJah. What this app has achieved is amazing.

There are different people who are not willing to spend that extra time on creating an account on any app. Many of the apps are very good except for the requirement of creating an account for online calling. So how do JaJah win? Well, the app certainly provides us with its basic functionality.

And that is the ability to 'call' your Facebook friends. We call our friends every now and then and before we know it, we forget their numbers. Now however, you can talk directly to them and grab their number if necessary by asking them to give their numbers.

The idea is pretty simple, once you login to this account and call one of your friends, they get a notification or link on their chat screen. If they follow or click that link, then the call is made. All this is for free.

Apple’s HDTV Coming in 2011

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:26 AM PDT

Apple HDTV may actually become a reality as early as the end of 2011. Wall Street analyst Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities reportedly told investors to expect Apple to launch a "Smart TV" by the end of the year. We're a little dubious, but White may actually be onto something.

Rumor has it that the TV will cost about $2000. In addition to getting a characteristitcly clean, sleak Apple design, it will have to offer the same quality screen, or better, as it does with the 27-inch Apple iMac.

There's been talk that the TV will offer a package that gives users free reign to any iTunes content, allowing you to stream TV shows, movies, and music from your TV for a set rate. Integration with Apple's AirPlay seems like a given.

No Roadmap for iPhone 5 Yet

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:20 AM PDT

Apple's Touch Panel Makers in Asia have mentioned that there is no Roadmap for iPhone 5 shared yet with them by Apple. They have further mentioned that before any new product launch, Apple would share the Roadmap of the product launch and ask them to stop manufacturing the current product.

"Apple has not yet released a production roadmap for iPhone 5 as shipment volumes of iPhone 4 have continued to mount and related suppliers are not yet ready to shift their production lines for new products, according to sources at Taiwan-based touch panel makers", the Taiwanese newspaper reports.

There are speculations that iPhone 5 will have a totally new design and quite a few components changed. However, it seems that Apple hasn't yet managed to solve all the technical issues; therefore it's safe to say that it could be launched in 2012.

The company is not making any official statement and there are obvious reasons for that: if the release date is announced, they will not sell too much of the current version of the iPhone and the competition will know what the deadline for their high-end projects should be.
