Windows 8 Installation Screenshots Has Leaked

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 01:44 AM PDT

Microsoft's upcoming operating system Windows 8 installation screenshots has leaked. These new screenshots show installation procedure of the OS. The new interface seems to have implications of Zune Media Centre and Windows Phone 7 together.

What follows below is an image of someone installing Windows 8. The UI is either excessively sparse, or perhaps unfinished.

In a virtual machine environment the upgrade process take about 20 minutes. Windows 8 is incompatible with the software VMware, and any attempt to install Windows 8 in VMware ends in "black screen of death":

There are also some rumors that the early build of Windows 8 will be made available only to some Manufacturing Partners via Windows Connect.

Facebook Brings Major Update To Its Mobile Website

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:08 AM PDT

Interactive Information Designer at Facebook, Lee Byron has updated his blog stating that the largest social network on the planet Facebook has launched a major update to its mobile website. Facebook has now launched a 'Unified' Mobile Website for Touch Screen phones and other smartphones.

Earlier, Facebook had two separate websites: touch.facebook.com for Touch Screen Phones and m.facebook.com for other mobiles. But from today forward though, m.mobile.com will be the only mobile version of Facebook, writes Mashable's Ben Parr.

Lee Byron Comments:

"There will no longer be a difference between m.facebook.com and touch.facebook.com, we'll automatically serve you the best version of the site for your device,"

The new website is made possible through a new UI framework that incorporates XHP (a PHP extension that incorporates XML), Javelin (Facebook's lightweight Javascript framework) and WURFL (an open source mobile device database). The framework is dynamic enough to detect the UI and limitations of individual devices and adjust to them automatically.

Although Twitter today decided to remove the hated QuickBar from its iPhone app, Cydia has gained one. The 'D**kBar' (quickbar) in Twitter was there to show users trending topics, but this did not gain much love from the users as they felt that it was very intrusive.

If you don't see the Quick Bar it will appear once your device's date changes to April 1st, 2011, April Fools Day.

This bar looks exactly like the one found in Twitter for iOS.

Apple Plans To Include 3D Cameras in Future iPhone

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 09:53 AM PDT

Apple has been exploring a multi-camera system for 3D picture taking, hinting at a future iPhone 3D, entitled "Systems and Methods for an Imaging System Using Multiple Image Sensors". The filing, revealed this week, describes a system that would capture, process and render 3D images with the accompanying dual-camera hardware.

Apple's approach is different than the usual stabs at the 3D problem, though. Their patent application describes a "paradigm shift from the known software-based approaches." Noting that current 3D imaging software must make a guess at how to perform stereo disparity compensation for 3D images, Apple's method would employ a more accurate, hardware-based approach.

Those guesses, Apple said, can result in images with artifacts in a composed 3D image that would result in a poor quality photo. Apple's method would instead employ a hardware-based approach with a "deterministic calculation for stereo disparity compensation."

Apple would create hardware with multiple imaging systems, employing separate luma, chroma and depth/distance sensors to capture images that can be turned into a single, three-dimensional picture.

In addition to still images, Apple's system would also be able to record video in 3D. Setup and calibration of such a system would be a simple one-time event, the filing claims.
