Sprint Radar Imaging System

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 04:48 AM PDT

Sprint radar imaging system peeps inside walls, floors to detect bombs and Cambridge Consultants sprints ahead with innovative counter-terror search technology.Sprint in-wall radar imaging system provides 3D renderings of items embedded in walls, floors and even ceilings, as existing X-ray systems require access to both sides of a wall……..

Cambridge Consultants, a leading technology design and development firm unveiled Sprint, a prototype handheld device which provides a 3D image of objects embedded within walls or floors. Based on Cambridge Consultants‘ proven short range radar expertise, Sprint enables an operator to rapidly form an image of subsurface structures such as pipes and cables, as well as detecting items of interest such as concealed explosives and contraband, revolutionising counter-terrorism and crime prevention search techniques.aw enforcement and security agencies are constantly facing new challenges as criminals and terrorists look for ever more creative ways to conceal weapons or to smuggle contraband, and the Sprint system has been designed to tackle some of the most challenging threat detection scenarios. The London 2012 Olympics, for example will be one of the toughest security challenges seen in the UK to date and security services will want to leave no stone unturned in the hunt for potential threats. Sprint can quickly and easily look inside anything from the floor to the roof, and the handheld system can simply be moved across a surface to build a larger picture. With many new buildings and facilities being developed for the 2012 games, this technology could provide a unique and innovative way of ensuring that they are clear of any threat.

Unlike existing transmission x-ray systems, the radar-based Sprint system does not require access to both sides of the object in order to scan inside, and provides an easily interpreted image of the wall structure, something which compact radar systems have previously not provided. This significantly improves its application potential and can enable much quicker deployment in scenarios where speed can be critical.“Whereas other options, such as backscatter x-rays, are cumbersome, expensive and power hungry systems, and conventional radar systems have been difficult to interpret, Sprint’s use of radar and processing technology makes it possible to look inside an opaque object or surface from one side safely, cheaply and quickly in a low power, handheld device,” commented Sam Pumphrey, Senior Consultant at Cambridge Consultants. The prototype Sprint device is the equivalent size of a standard sheet of letter paper and 15cm deep, weighing approximately 3.5kg with batteries. It is a multi-channel system, enabling full synthetic aperture processing, and it uses short pulses of energy with high bandwidth to enable the short range, high resolution imaging required. Other potential applications for the technology include industrial inspection, technical search, counter surveillance and a range of military applications.Cambridge Consultants is currently conducting extensive performance testing to take Sprint beyond the prototype stage and ready it for future commercialisation.Sprint has been developed to sit alongside Cambridge Consultants’ Prism 200 device. Prism 200 is a handheld through-wall radar, designed to be used by police, special forces or the emergency services. It provides quick and covert intelligence on the movement and location of people in a room or building – without the need for invasive sensors.

Plex Has Updated To Version 1.1

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 04:12 AM PDT

Plex is a fantastic multi-platform media center that runs on Macs and Windows PCs and has great iOS and Android clients. Plex has updated to version 1.1. The latest version includes many new and updated features, like improved subtitle and audio stream selection support, Direct Streaming and Direct Play support.

Once installed on your desktop machine (which becomes a "server") Plex can fetch music, movies and TV shows stored on your computer or anywhere else on an external hard drive, organize them properly into categories by adding the correct metadata, and handle streaming to the clients (such as the iPhone or iPad apps) with live conversion of unsupported video formats. All your media can also be played locally on a computer without the need of a mobile client thanks to the desktop Plex app, which is highly customizable: you can add your own themes, install plugins (like Spotify) and connect to online content providers such as the CNN, Vimeo, Cnet TV, Youtube, Apple Movie Trailers and many others. If that's not enough for you, Plex can also enable you to connect to your media library remotely via WiFi or 3G with a global hostname, through the iOS apps.

One interesting addition is TV out and AirPlay support, though the latter is still "experimental," which suggests less-than-optimal performance.

Plex 1.1 also offers much improved live encoding. For example, Plex 1.1 will note what your Apple TV 2 can manage and only convert what needs to be converted, leaving other streams intact.

Plex 1.1 is available from the App Store now for $4.99. Also, grab Plex for Mac to enjoy video, music, pictures and more.

LG Mobile Digital TV

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 03:26 AM PDT

LG Electronics shows expansive capabilities of mobile digital TV,demonstrating Tweet-TV social networking and electronic coupons glasses free 3D.Tweet-TV enabled Android phone to its list of Mobile DTV prototypes and LG’s prototype receiver built around the LG2161 demodulator chip and LG-exclusive 3D formatting circuitry that combines the side-by-side left and right images for seamless viewing without the need for 3D eyewear commonly used for 3D TVs………..

As mobile digital television broadcasts ramp up this year, the television receiver of the future will fit in the palm of your hand and do much more than just deliver breaking news, weather alerts and favorite shows. In fact, the very digital TV broadcasting system used to deliver today’s information and entertainment programming to mobile devices can also deliver up-to-the second social networking updates, engaging three-dimensional (3D) telecasts and electronic coupons that would help eliminate the need to clip or print out coupons. The first mobile digital TV that displays 3D images broadcast via the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard is being demonstrated by LG Electronics at the 2011 NAB Show here this week. The prototype 7-inch receiver is designed with auto-stereoscopic capability that eliminates the need for special viewing glasses to see stunning 3D TV images. LG also will show an innovative social network services application for the first time. Viewers engaged with Tweet-TV would be able to interact with program content and submit their comments on programs. The broadcaster consolidates the real-time comments and transmits those short messages with the video and audio, enabling a transparent conversational overlay. The application enables viewers to carry on an open discussion of program content or reply to questions that could be part of an audience quiz.

In addition, to show how local TV broadcasters can now offer more than just linear TV channels, LG Electronics is showing its first Android-enabled smartphone prototype equipped with Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) reception, which offers conditional access functionality for future subscription broadcasts and the capability of receiving non-real time data such as electronic coupons or real-time data reception with applications like Tweet-TV.“The ATSC Mobile DTV standard offers broadcasters remarkable flexibility to address the changing demands of consumers and advertisers,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and chief technology officer, LG Electronics, Inc. “As broadcasters continue their national rollout of Mobile DTV, LG is proud to lead the transition with the latest innovations in mobile DTV services like 3D and applications like Tweet-TV and Electronic Coupons.”The demonstrations are made possible through a cooperative effort with Harris Corporation, which has developed the necessary MDTV transmission equipment and local DTV broadcasters KLAS-TV, 8 News NOW in Las Vegas. Roundbox, a leading mobile software provider, is providing non-real time data services that power the Smartphone coupon application, as well as the Electronic Services Guide (ESG) for all three of the innovative applications for ATSC MDTV.

In collaboration with Roundbox, LG is demonstrating the new Tweet-TV mobile DTV application that will allow viewer tweets to be displayed interactively on a mobile DTV receiver while a program is airing. A Harris MDTV transmitter will deliver viewer tweets that are received as data files and displayed in a transparent panel over a portion of the LG mobile DTV screen, a prototype version of an LG Android smartphone. In the Las Vegas demonstration, the 3D signals are being internally transmitted at the Convention Center to receivers throughout the North Hall. Receiving the signal is LG’s prototype receiver built around the LG2161 demodulator chip and LG-exclusive 3D formatting circuitry that combines the side-by-side left and right images for seamless viewing without the need for 3D eyewear commonly used for 3D TVs. The seven-inch barrier-type LCD display shows lifelike 3D images that appear to jump right off the screen. With its built-in antenna, the device also receives conventional 2D 416×240 resolution MDTV broadcasts and scales images up to 800×480 resolution. It also functions as an attractive digital photo frame when not being used as a Mobile DTV receiver.

Non-real time services such as electronic couponing and video-on-demand are made possible by the versatile ATSC Mobile Digital TV standard now being deployed by broadcasters throughout the U.S. KLAS-TV 8 (RF channel 7) is transmitting digital coupons for electronics stores and restaurants during CES. The smartphone prototype for both the Electronic Coupon and Tweet-TV demonstrations is LG’s first full-touch CDMA device with built-in Mobile DTV circuitry. Running the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and LG’s second-generation MDTV chip, the fully-featured Smartphone includes a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, 3 megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi capability, and other features such as an accelerometer, digital compass, and ability to play back a variety of audio and video codecs.Co-developer of the technology at the heart of the ATSC Mobile DTV Standard, LG Electronics is producing the critical component for Mobile DTV reception the LG2161R single chip design that includes both the tuner and demodulator in a tiny seven-by-seven millimeter square package. This key component of mobile DTV receivers already can be found in a variety of new products being introduced by various manufacturers this year for mobile DTV, from laptop USB accessory receivers to prototype netbooks with integrated mobile DTV tuners.

Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 02:40 AM PDT

Fujifilm has unveiled a new compact camera that offers more than any other point-and-shoot available in the market, FinePix Z900 EXR offers not just great shooting performance but excellent style as well. The FinePix Z900 EXR possesses a sensor device that makes the light pass through an array of wiring before ending up in the diodes and the BSI sensor then reverses the diodes giving an immensely sensitive picture.FinePix Z900 EXR gives users the option of using it either manually or automatically and the automatic mode would be a good choice for fast photography as precision is guaranteed…….

FUJIFILM North America Corporation announced the FinePix Z900 EXR digital camera, the latest addition to the fashion-forward line of Z-series compact cameras. The FinePix Z900 EXR delivers a powerful new 16-MegaPixel EXR CMOS sensor, a FUJINON 5x wide angle refractive optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) and a large widescreen (16:9) 3.5-inch High Resolution Touch screen LCD with an easy-to-use Multi Touch user interface. The FinePix Z900 EXR also offers a series of impressive features that include a new EXR Auto mode that recognizes 27 scenes, one-touch access to full 1080p HD movie capture, an intuitive Dual Direction GUI with beautiful vector font that allows for smooth and easy navigation with an improved Flash animation user interface with tap and shoot capabilities and fast image tagging with automatic upload functions to YouTube and Facebook."The new FinePix Z900 EXR blends our most fashion-forward design with a powerful 16-MegaPixel EXR CMOS sensor to give users a technology-packed camera for a night out on the town with friends when they want to capture the fun at every stop," said David Troy, director of marketing, Digital Cameras, Electronics Imaging Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. "When design and function matter the most, the Z900 EXR is the hands-down choice for people who want fast multi touch operation, quick access to full HD video and speedy shooting modes that never miss a shot."

With advanced image quality, improved low light sensitivity and faster performance, the EXR CMOS sensor technology brings new advanced imaging features to the FinePix Z900 EXR digital camera, including:

  • High-speed Continuous Shooting – Ultra-burst shooting powered by the fast CMOS sensor shoots the action at 12fps and high speed movies at 320fps at full resolution.
  • Multi Frame Technology – Combined with the accelerated performance of the CMOS, this feature synthesizes consecutive burst shots into a single composite image, blending the sensitivities to "smooth" the noise signature.
  • High Sensitivity, Low Noise – CMOS turns the sensor upside down to let light directly strike the silicon for higher sensitivity, more uniform response and lower pixel cross talk. Combined with EXR technology, that means superior photos in low light with even lower noise.

Prized for bringing a new level of advanced image quality to the consumer compact market, Fujifilm's EXR technology has the unique ability to switch its behavior depending on the shooting conditions by automatically switching sensor modes. The Z900 EXR can be left on EXR Auto Mode and the cameras will do all the work for you, or you can manually select one of three EXR Priority modes: High Resolution (HR); Dynamic Range (DR), which takes two pictures and combines them to provide a range of up to 1600%; or High ISO, Low Noise, which is perfect for capturing stunning pictures in low light situations. The FinePix Z900 EXR features a slim metal chassis and a chic horizontal sliding lens barrier. At only 18.2mm thin, the FinePix Z900 EXR is ultra-portable and can easily be slipped into a handbag or jeans pocket. It is available in a choice of three stylish colors: matte black, red or blue. With full 1080p HD movie capture, the FinePix Z900 EXR captures vivid images that can be played back in beautiful detail on your HDTV. In addition, the FinePix Z900 EXR's one-touch movie button makes it simple to create your own movie clips, with sequential capture, letting you start and stop in a single movie clip. Full 1080p HD movies in low light are especially brilliant thanks to Pixel Fusion Movie Technology that makes pixels more sensitive to dim light situations. Movie files (.MOV) are captured in full 1080p HD in stereo at 30fps with H.264 high profile compression for smaller file sizes without sacrificing quality. With a mini-HDMI output connector, it is easy to connect and view images on your HDTV (HDMI cable not included).

Sharing photos online has become an everyday activity for many people, so Fujifilm includes the Facebook/YouTube Automatic Upload feature that makes for quicker and easier modes of posting photos/videos on social networking sites. This feature allows users to identify and tag a photo for Facebook or YouTube upload. Once the camera is connected to a PC and MyFinePix Studio software is launched, all marked photos or movies will upload directly to Facebook or YouTube at the press of a button. With those main features you must want to know what is the name of this camera and what it's price, right? Well the name of the new camera is Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR and its price will be $279.95 when it is launched on the market in April. Fujifilm will launch this digital camera in the UK with the model name FinePix Z909 EXR in May and for £219.You can admire the camera in its 7 various colors Blue, Matte Black, Pink, Red, Silver and White.

Features :

  • Tap and Shoot: Provides the ability for one touch focus and shooting for easy photo taking. After the user taps the focal point of choice for the shooting scene on the LCD display, the camera automatically sets the appropriate focus and functions, and then releases the shutter for optimal one touch picture taking.
  • EXR Auto mode featuring 27 scenes: This mode intelligently detects the scene-type and shooting conditions and optimizes the camera settings accordingly.
  • Intelligent Image Stabilization:
The new mechanically stabilized sensor is able to overcome handshake and can compensate for both sharp and wide hand movements, therefore increasing ISO to freeze action is no longer so necessary, meaning sharp low-light pictures can be achieved at ISO 400, rather than ISO 800 or 1600 at night scenery. The FinePix Z900 EXR also works to reduce blur to a minimum by deploying high ISO sensitivity to automatically increase shutter speeds, and CMOS shift type to counteract the problems of handshake. By cleverly combining these two, blur is reduced to an absolute minimum.
  • Face Recognition: Fujifilm's Face Recognition Technology gives you the ability to pre-program 8 people into the camera. You also have the option of inputting the category to which they belong (e.g. friends/family) and the date of his/her birthday. The next time you take a photo of the same person, the camera will cleverly recognize that person and optimize the settings to ensure that exposure and focus are best suited to the individual, rather than the other people in the picture. This fun technology can recognize up to 4 pre-programmed people on screen at the same time.
  • Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, the FinePix Z900 EXR is fitted with Fujifilm's latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously, at almost any angle to the camera. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.
  • i-Flash Intelligent Flash: Offers a flash control system which efficiently controls the level of flash for a given exposure to produce beautifully balanced flash illumination across the foreground and background. Gone are the ugly washout shots where the subject is blasted with light and the background dark and unexposed.
  • Motion Panorama 360° Mode: The FinePix Z900 EXR sensor extends the sweep range to 360˚ (shots can also be taken vertically). Combined with high quality Fujifilm printing, sweeping and impressive scenes can be taken, showing fine detail, low noise and high resolution at 180°, 240˚ or full 360˚ panoramic ranges.
  • Playback Capabilities: Offers a variety of playback features for easy and immediate sharing such as the widescreen LCD in full HD, slide show, sort, edit and search features, plus Dual Image Display that splits the screen in various ways to view multiple images at once.
  • Photo Book Assist: Photo Book Assist lets you select and organize images in your camera to create a digital photo book. You can download the photo books to your computer using MyFinePix Studio software that is included.

New virus for iOS 4.x Found

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 12:51 AM PDT

A new virus appear on internet to attack iOS. The distribution of the destructive virus happens with a App from internet pages about Fake Jailbreak presentation called: "UNLOCK NOW FREE". Do not go to this page from iOS device.

If you do this, however, you'll see -10-15 seconds of an animation followed by the text: "DOWNLOAD UNLOCK 2 NOW FREE". Then it's already too late and your information will be cleared (SIM and idevice information).

If you search information about Jailbreak or Unlock for iPhone or iPad –> search this information from Mac or PC, but don't do it this from iOS device.

If you like search information about Jailbreak or Unlock for iPhone or iPad from iPhone or iPad –> search this information from original pages (examples: www.ultrasn0w.ca, blog.iphone-dev.org, ih8sn0w.com, chronic-dev.org)

To stop this virus it is necessary to inform all internet users as soon as possible so this virus gets NO chance to survive.

Verizon To Sell 16 GB Motorola Xoom At a Cheaper Price

Posted: 11 Apr 2011 12:21 AM PDT

Motorola supposedly is working on a Motorola Xoom 16GB version for the Verizon Wireless network. Currently Verizon sells a 32 GB Version for $799 without a contract, $200 less with one. This rumor is believable because the 32 GB version was so popular that a 16 GB version will inevitably be even more popular.

The Motorola Xoom is the closest competitor to the iPad 2, except that it currently only comes in 32GB – in either Wi-Fi or 3G upgradeable to 4G LTE. The best feature of the Motorola Xoom is that you can view Adobe Flash in the web browser.

The current Motorola Xoom will be upgradeable to the Verizon 4G LTE network, which reviewers are saying is the fastest data network around.

No word on what pricing could end up at, but we're seeing WiFi-only tablets with 16GB of storage fall in around the $400-$450 range.

iSteve: The Book of Jobs Coming Early in 2012

Posted: 10 Apr 2011 11:42 PM PDT

According to ABCNews (via Fortune) Apple CEO Steve Jobs has finally agreed to participate in a book about his life. Simon & Schuster announced Sunday that "iSteve: The Book of Jobs," will be based on interviews that author Walter Isaacson has held with Jobs and his family.

Spokeswoman Tracey Guest of Simon & Schuster said no further details were available and that neither Jobs nor Isaacson would be commenting.

Many Jobs biographies have been written, but not with his authorization. He reacted to at least one book with active disapproval. In 2005, Apple banished works by John Wiley & Sons from its stores because the publisher had signed up an unauthorized biography, “iCon: Steve Jobs, The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business,” by Jeffrey S. Young and William L. Simon.

Few biographers are better connected than Isaacson, a former top executive at CNN and Time magazine who has written best-sellers about Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein. He is currently the president and CEO of the Aspen Institute, a “nonpartisan educational and policy studies institute” in Washington, D.C.

The Jobs book will be his fourth major biography. In addition to Kissinger: A Biography (1992) he has written Benjamin Franklin: An American Life (2003) and Einstein: His Life and Universe (2007). His most recent book is American Sketches: Great Leaders, Creative Thinkers, and Heroes of a Hurricane (2009).

The Jobs book was announced in February of last year but now it has a title and release date.

Amazon.com Already Advertising For iPhone 5

Posted: 10 Apr 2011 11:19 PM PDT

Whether the rumor of iPhone 5 is true or false, the iPhone 5 announcement is still most likely anywhere from 3 to 6 months away. We are beginning to see some top retailers focusing their online advertising efforts on the "iPhone 5″ keyword. Does this indicate that an iPhone 5 release could come sooner than even the most impatient rumors suggest?

If you currently google for “iPhone 5″ you will see that Amazon is already selling the iPhone 5. Their ads read:

“iPhone 5 at Amazon.com – Buy iPhone 5 at Amazon… Qualified orders over $25 ship free”

As you would expect, the iPhone 5 isn’t out so if you click on the obvious link bait there is no iPhone 5 products found. Now we understand that its important to run eye-catching ads but why would they say “Buy iPhone 5 at Amazon” if they don’t actually have one when you click on it.

One might ask themselves why multi-billion dollar retailer Amazon.com would risk offending multi-billion dollar manufacturer Apple in order to hopefully grab a few $12 accessory sales on the sly by baiting customers to their site. The likely, and seemingly valid, answer is that they wouldn’t.

The ads are bogus. That is to say they’re not Amazon’s doing. Sure, they take you to Amazon.com. The ad even shows “amazon.com” as the destination URL. However, there’s nothing stopping anyone from running this ad and linking it to Amazon.com. That’s right, anyone can sign up for a Google Adwords account, create the exact ad seen above and cause the sort of stink that’s resulted from the ad in question.

However, one has to wonder if the added traffic from putting up the first iPhone 5 keyword ad will stoke consumer anger, since there is currently no iPhone 5 on sale there. To be sure, large e-commerce websites are notorious for launching sprawling ad campaigns that encompass large swathes of keyword phrases — even if they don't carry the item you're searching for.

There is always the outside chance that Amazon is aware of an impeding surprise iPhone 5 announcement and are simply laying the groundwork for their own online advertising campaign. But the greater likelihood is that they are simply trying to funnel in more referral traffic. One thing is for sure, however: when large corporations like AT&T and Amazon begin to target the "iPhone 5″ keyword, it proves nothing less that iPhone 5 buzz has reached a fever pitch .

Rumor: MacBook Air 2011 Coming This Summer

Posted: 10 Apr 2011 11:03 PM PDT

Apple is set to update its MacBook Air series in the next few months. Rumors suggesting that the MacBook Air 2011 model will pack specs to match that of the current MacBook Pro. With an upgrade to Sandy Bridge, benchmarks suggest that performance will be close to that of the MacBook Pro.

Recent benchmarks on the comparable Samsung Series 9 thin and light notebook computer suggests that an upgrade to the Sandy Bridge architecture will give the MacBook Air a significant performance boost, which might be comparable to the 13-inch MacBook Pro (particularly with the MBP's use of Intel HD 3000 graphics instead of a discrete AMD Radeon chip).

However what is unknown is whether Apple will choose the 25W Intel Core i7-2649M running at 2.3 GHz or the 17W Core i5-2537 for the MacBook Air 2011. Whichever it may be, it will certainly blow the current Intel Core 2 Duo out of the water.

The MacBook Air 2011 model is also expected to incorporate 4GB RAM instead of 2GB and may possibly borrow other features from the new MacBook Pro. On a side note, the recently released developers build of Mac OS X Lion hints that the OS is being setup for much higher resolutions (closer to Retina Display), speculating the new MacBook Air may have an update in the screen department as well.
