Posted: 22 Feb 2011 01:50 AM PST Zbox AD03 Blu-ray HTPC gets review and it’s a Xotac Fusion based Blu-ray HTPC.AMD has once again begun aggressively talking up Fusion and showing off a number of Fusion-based products and AMD E-350 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), the Gigabyte E350N-USB3 and Zotac Zbox Blu-Ray AD03 Plus are two very different products…….
Zotac was champing at the bit to be one of the first and its Zbox AD03 / AD03 Plus has just hit the test bench over at Hot Hardware. All told, the results were fairly predictable with the Fusion APU running laps around the prior Atom-based version. Zacate E-350 managed to hold its own, with the only real issue being lackluster Flash video acceleration. The AD03 Plus (ringing up at $529.99) seems like a worse deal with its skimpy 2GB of RAM and (comparatively sluggish) 250GB HDD, while the barebones AD03 (which lists for $439.99) could be turned into quite the powerhouse with 4GB of memory and a speedy SSD. Although they are based on the same AMD E-350 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), the Gigabyte E350N-USB3 and Zotac Zbox Blu-Ray AD03 Plus are two very different products. The Gigabyte E350N-USB3 is a mini-ITX mobo featuring an E-350 APU targeting the DIY crowd, while the Zotac Zbox is a sleek, highly-integrated, full-featured HTPC. Let’s take a look at the new ZBox first and then we’ll evaluate performance to see how these retail-ready AMD E-350 APU-based products fare against some competing low-power platforms and AMD’s own reference system. Microsoft Kinect for Windows SDK Coming In Spring Posted: 22 Feb 2011 01:08 AM PST Microsoft will release a Kinect software development kit for Windows this spring and it will be a non-commercial release, developed for academic research and enthusiast communities to create even richer experiences using Kinect technology……. Microsoft will be releasing the Kinect for Windows SDK starter kit this spring to make it simpler for the academic research and enthusiast communities to create rich natural user interfaces using the motion-sensing device. The community that has blossomed since the launch of Kinect for Xbox 360 in November shows the breadth of invention and depth of imagination possible when people have access to ground-breaking technology. Already, researchers, academics and enthusiasts are thinking through what's next in natural and intuitive technology. For example, in January I mentioned Craig's talk at the Cleveland Clinic where he highlighted students at the University of Washington's Biorobotics Lab using Kinect with a commercially available PHANTOM Omni Haptic Device to explore how robotic surgery could be enhanced by incorporating the sense of feel. The Kinect for Windows SDK is being developed and released by Microsoft Research (MSR) in collaboration with IEB. It will be available this spring as a free download and will give academic researchers and enthusiasts access to key pieces of the Kinect system—such as the audio technology, system application programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor itself.Supporting this community and enabling creativity around natural user interfaces (NUI) is important to us, and our hope is that this SDK will ignite further creativity in an already vibrant ecosystem of enthusiasts. We are very excited by this announcement. Not only does it showcase our investment in this important technology trend, but it ensures that people have the tools they desire to revolutionize how people interact with technology. Microsoft says that the non-commercial SDK will give users access to deep Kinect system information such as audio, system application-programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor.Kinect has already been hacked to work with Mac OS X and with Windows PCs and Microsoft has already said that an official Windows version was on its way.Natural and intuitive technologies such as Kinect can be more than just a great platform for gaming and entertainment. They open up enormous opportunities across a wide variety of scenarios, including addressing societal issues in areas such as healthcare and education. Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:15 AM PST Toyota is on the hunt for the correct plural of Prius and they announces the Plural of Prius.Toyota has finally decided what you should say when you see multiples of the company’s hybrids parked together, they are to be called Prii not Priuses not Priuples not Boring Cars. This Plural of Prius is made by Toyota Prius Projects, a series of offbeat grassroots events that Toyota has been running in the U.S. and augmenting with video documentaries of each event also got involved…….. Toyota Motor Sales Inc. announced that the general public has selected ‘Prii‘ as the preferred plural term for Prius. The Prius Goes Plural voting campaign was launched on January 10 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and challenged the public to help the automaker determine the plural nomenclature of Prius. The campaign coincided with the world premiere of the Toyota Prius family of vehicles. With 25 percent of the votes, Prii becomes the word not only endorsed by the public who chose it, but also as the term recognized by Toyota. As such, Dictionary.com has updated its entry for the word ‘Prius‘ to reflect this. Toyota unveiled the winning word at the Chicago Auto Show this morning. Jay Schwartz, head of content for Dictionary.com, was on hand to inform the public that, as the plural of Prius has now been determined, the term ‘Prii‘ will be reflected in Dictionary.com.After the more than 1.8 million votes were cast during the course of the six-week campaign, Prii beat out its four competitors: Prius, Priuses, Prium and Prien. Prius came in at a close second with 24 percent of the votes. A video recap of the campaign and winning word celebration can be viewed at www.ToyotaPriusProjects.com. The plural of Prius has sparked debates since the launch of the vehicle 10 years ago. Now that the Prius family has grown, Toyota asked its customers and fans to help the company decide on a term to describe the plural of Prius vehicles, thus answering the decade-long question-what do you call more than one Prius? Online voting modules enabled the public to vote for their preferred plural of Prius as well as view real-time polling data. The campaign also featured an animated video, print ads and a web series hosted by James Lipton, host of Inside the Actors Studio and author of An Exaltation of Larks. With the expansion of the Prius family to include the Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicle (PHV), Prius v and Prius c concept.Toyota hopes to further increase acceptance of the Prius brand by offering a wider selection of vehicles that each maintain Prius’ core values of high fuel economy, low emissions, proven gas-electric hybrid technology and environmental stewardship.

Live TV Support Coming To Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 & Galaxy S II Posted: 21 Feb 2011 11:11 PM PST Samsung has confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet and Galaxy S II smartphone will gain live TV support. Pocket-lint managed to source information from the electronics giant about a new streaming facility that works along the same lines as their latest remote control. Where as the remote enables you to view TV channels on the actual unit, with the use of certain TV model's second tuner, live TV can be streamed to some Samsung handheld devices. According to Slashgear the D7000 and D8000 range will be able to perform this streaming extra, with the latest Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S II compatible to receive the signal. In short this will allow these portable devices to become like second TV's for viewing anywhere in the home. There's currently no confirmation whether the technology will allow streaming over 3G or whether the two interacting devices need to be on the same WiFi network. If, however, 3G streaming is possible then Samsung just found its differentiator.

Windows 8 M3 is already scheduled to begin coding next week on February 28, 2011. Microsoft compiled 6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608 on Friday after pushing out a number of Windows 8 builds recently. Things are moving along nicely behind closed doors, and versions of the OS will soon be allowed out to Microsoft's trusted partners for testing. Some of the recent Windows 8 builds which were compiled in the last couple of weeks were: 6.2.7925.0.winmain_win8m2.110207-1736 Another interesting thing to point out is that the final build candidate for Windows 8 M2 will be signed off on Wednesday, and the developers tasks will be assigned on Friday.
Posted: 21 Feb 2011 10:38 PM PST Verizon release new Ad and new Commercial for Motorola XOOM tablet. The ad has an almost Droid like feel to it and like most other Verizon Android ads.Honeycomb-based Xoom will join its Apple cousin in not supporting Adobe’s Flash upon its release…….. Motorola XOOM is just a few more days away from launch and one of the Verizon Wireless has released a new commercial for some promo. The promo drops the anti-Orwellian tones of the Super Bowl spot and instead suggests that being ensnared by technology is a positive. A passer-by grabbing a Xoom is promptly caught up by a pod that envelops him without warning. The ad is more in the tone of Verizon‘s ads for phones like the Droid X which also showed a cybernetic hijack and has reinforced Verizon’s emphasis on very aggressive, masculine ads to push its Android hardware. The critical difference there being that while Apple’s iPad and iPhone lines are expected to remain Flash-free for the foreseeable future. Motorola has gone on record as promising Flash at some point in spring of 2011. Motorola is waiting for the release of Flash 10.2 for Mobile—a rumored Honeycomb-only update (Android 3.0) that’s expected to deliver stronger video quality and frame rates using less processing power and memory. According to the company’s latest figures from the 2011 Mobile World Congress, more than 20 million smartphones have shipped with (or been upgraded to) its Flash Player 10.1 software. Adobe expects its total mobile Flash adoption to hit 132 million units worldwide by the end of 2011 and the company estimates that 50 tablets will feature Flash pre-installed (or available for download) by the end of the year as well. Both Motorola and Verizon are counting heavily on the Xoom launch as an important part of their strategy. The two depend heavily on each other for revenue and could see Motorola falter if its efforts making the Xoom aren’t rewarded. Verizon is less dependent on the Xoom through its Galaxy Tab and iPad deals, but the high profile of the Xoom as its first Android 3.0 tablet has set expectations high. Now that commercial should please those who were left dry by the original Super Bowl one. As a reminder Verizon Wireless will be offering the 10.1-inch XOOM with 3G for $799 in their stores on the 24th as will Best Buy on that same day. Those are the only two US retail stores Motorola seems to have deals with at the moment, but they may expand if demand is high for their tablet. Features :

Windows Phone Blog Confirmed The First Windows Phone 7 Update Posted: 21 Feb 2011 10:29 PM PST A new update for Windows Phone 7 is expected today. The official Windows Phone Blog has confirmed this news. Unfortunately, this is not the long-awaited copy-and-paste update. For that, we still have to wait until March. No, this new update updates Windows Phone 7′s update mechanism. It’s an update to allow next month’s update to actually work properly. This first update for Windows Phone 7 to be released today is meant to improve the software update process. This may seem to be less exciting, but it is a crucial step in getting future updates to the handset as smoothly as possible. The update will be available today, but will not be sent out to everyone at once. Rather, it will be released in batches to users of Windows Phone 7, to ensure that the process goes smoothly. In order to get this update, you must connect your Windows Phone handset to the Zune software on Windows or the WP7 Connector for Mac and you will be guided through the update.
Android 3.0 Honeycomb Ported to The Nexus One Posted: 21 Feb 2011 10:01 PM PST The SDK version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb has been ported successfully to Google Nexus One by the XDA Developer. However, the port isn’t fully functional as the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Audio features need a bit tweaking to work. As Brad Linder points out over at Mobiputing the ROM has a long way to go before it’s really usable. 3D performance is sluggish, and basic phone functionality is lacking — you can’t make calls or SMS yet. One has to perform some tricks to get the UI working in landscape orientation. The Honeycomb Alpha SDK ROM carries some modifications like the File Manager form the Cyanogen 7 pre-release Custom Rom, Terminal Emulator, QuickBoot for reboot and has been rooted. Just in case you are going to try out this ROM on your phone, be warned that it might turn your phone into a telephony-less handset. Download Android 3.0 Honeycomb for Nexus One.

Now that's power! XMAX Class A PreamplifiersStudioLive includes sixteen custom-designed high-voltage, discrete, XMAX Class A microphone preamplifiers for all types of microphones. The job of a microphone preamplifier is to boost microphone level signals to line level so that the signal can be converted from analog to digital. This mic to line boost is generally a preamplification of over 400 times the voltage of the original mic level signal. This preamplification stage is one of the most important stages that the signal will go through before converted to digital, and is why a high performance preamplifier is important to achieving great results. All XMAX preamplifiers are built with the same three elements: High Voltage – The XMAX preamplifier runs on power rails of 30V. Most off the shelf op amp based designs run on power rails of 10V to 18V. Higher voltage power rails deliver more headroom, deeper lows, smoother highs and an overall fuller sound. Discrete – No op amps. Only transistors, resistors and capacitors. Op amps add noise, coloration and harshness to a signal. Discrete designs deliver ultra low noise and transparency. Class A – When a circuit is running in Class A mode the circuit is always in an “on” state operating at its optimal voltage requirements. Class A mode has zero crossover distortion and delivers purer, clearer and more musical sonics than class A/B designs which are found in most op-amp circuits. The net result of the XMAX preamp design is high headroom, low noise, wide dynamic range and wide frequency range, and most importantly, musicality and transparency – smooth highs, solid deep lows, and everything in between. That’s all about the PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2. This digital mixer is available in Amazon.com. You can directly order or Buy form here.
Posted: 21 Feb 2011 08:28 AM PST Volvo releases more details on 124MPG V60 plug-in with new iPhone app and a sneak preview of the production model arriving in 2012.The world's first diesel plug-in hybrid comes with three different driving modes at the push of a button and driver chooses the preferred driving mode via three buttons on the instrument panel: Pure, Hybrid and Power……. Volvo Cars will be unveiling the V60 Plug-in Hybrid – a virtually production-ready car with carbon dioxide emissions below 50 g/km.The Plug-in Hybrid which will be launched on the market in 2012 is the result of close cooperation between Volvo Cars and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall. In January 2007, Volvo Cars and Vattenfall launched an industrial partnership whose aim was to test and develop plug-in technology. This cross-border initiative resulted in the foundation of a jointly owned company – V2 Plug-in-Hybrid Vehicle Partnership.Development work has been jointly financed. Now the project is on the threshold of introducing the market’s first diesel plug-in hybrid. It’s an attractive car type that gives the user access to the very best properties of both an electric car and a diesel-powered vehicle: very low fuel consumption and CO2 levels, combined with long range and high performance. When powered solely by electricity, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid has a range of up to 50 kilometres. The car’s total operating range is up to 1200 km. Carbon dioxide emissions will be an average of 49 grams per kilometre (EU Combined) and fuel consumption will be 1.9 litres per 100 km.The cost of the battery pack means the plug-in hybrid will be more expensive to buy than a Volvo V60 with a conventional combustion engine. On the other hand, fuel costs will be one-third compared with a conventional combustion engine. The cost of running on electricity in Sweden has been calculated at about 2.50 kronor per 10 km. The exact cost will vary from one market to another. The plug-in hybrid can be charged via a regular household electricity socket at home or when parked somewhere else. Charging time is about five hours if the car is recharged at home. An electric motor is almost four times as efficient as a regular combustion engine. This means that an electrically powered car consumes less energy and thus produces lower emissions, even if it is powered by a blend of electricity sources that include fossil fuels.European electricity production has an emission ceiling. This means that even if all vehicles were to run on electricity, electricity production itself is not allowed to produce more carbon dioxide. This emission ceiling will be gradually lowered over a period of time.Electricity is an excellent source of energy. It does not risk running out, and it can be produced virtually without any CO2 emissions. For instance, Vattenfall is working towards halving the company’s emissions by 2030 and becoming climate-neutral by 2050. Emissions from millions of exhaust tailpipes are transferred to a small number of production facilities which are easier to control and which will operate on the basis of the EU’s trade in emission rights, something that does not apply to the transport sector at present.Electric vehicles use relatively little electricity and the increase in consumption will be more than covered by ambitious expansion plans for renewable energy sources throughout Europe. A single wind-power station, for instance, produces sufficient renewable energy to power 3,000 electric cars. Vattenfall will offer buyers of the plug-in hybrid a contract including electricity from renewable sources.Electricity production is undergoing rapid expansion. Wind-power is being commercially introduced on a large scale and is continuing to expand, biofuels will replace fossil fuels on a broad front, wave-power is expected to enter commercial operation within ten years and new technology to clean CO2 emissions from coal-fired power stations is currently under development. At Volvo Cars, work progresses on the V60 Plug-in Hybrid in parallel with development of the Volvo C30 Electric which runs entirely on electricity. These two car types complement one another. With a plug-in hybrid the driver is entirely independent of recharging stations when driving long distances. Check Out The Videos Below :
Posted: 21 Feb 2011 07:34 AM PST Antistatic E-3POD concept wins Citroen design award, the Electric Tripod (E-3POD) is a new typology of electric vehicles aimed for urban commuting. The strategic positioning of the vehicle segment aims to appeal to the masses of people who have doubts about changing their cars for electric cars and it’s an ultralight, micro segment electric three-wheeler with the driver sitting inside a large hub-less third wheel……. The student designer created a three-wheeled concept for Citroën that attempts to tackle the problem of urban transport in a more innovative way than Smart and other mini-car manufacturers by packaging a single driver inside a large hubless wheel. Details on the powertrain are minimal, but a small battery sends power to a motor motivating the two front wheels and the entire structure tilts back to provide increased stability at speed.Heikki Juvonen's E-3POD Antistatic was chosen as the best overall design by representatives from Citroën's Style Centre and Electric Vehicle Development Team. His single-seat creation is a bold and engaging take on an urban three wheel electric vehicle. The distinctive, aerodynamic styling features two smaller wheels at the front with the driver sitting inside a larger third wheel with an innovative hub-less design. As his prize, Heikki receives a six month employment contract to work at the prestigious PSA Design Centre in Paris. Citroën had significant involvement throughout the Double Challenge project, providing industry figures to lend the students their expertise and experience, as well as organising a trip to the PSA Design Centre and Le Conservatoire, Citroën's in-house museum of historic models. The RCA is the only exclusively postgraduate art and design university. The college's Automotive Design course has been in existence for 40 years and is the oldest of its kind in Europe.Junoven‘s creation was good enough to land the best overall design award at the Royal College of Art’s Interim Degree Show in London and a six-month contract to intern at the PSA design center in Paris where he’ll be working alongside Citroën and Peugeot’s stylists.
