Posted: 19 Mar 2011 03:02 AM PDT Ericsson delivers HD voice on CDMA and this crystal clear calling coming to a network near you.HD voice significantly increases voice quality, intelligibility and decreases listening fatigue in mobile networks and also enhances the CDMA operator’s ability to deliver differentiated voice services and improves the subscriber experience. The calls are made using Enhanced Variable Rate Codec Narrowband-Wideband codec which increases voice clarity and HD calls run on the 50Hz to 7000Hz spectral range……..
Ericsson has successfully completed a CDMA wideband High Definition (HD) voice call using the Enhanced Variable Rate Codec Narrowband-Wideband (EVRC-NW) codec, demonstrating a technical first for the CDMA industry. CDMA HD voice delivers speech in a wider spectral range of 50Hz to 7000Hz, which increases voice quality, intelligibility and decreases listening fatigue, even in environments with high background noise.Ericsson leads the industry in introducing new technologies with superior voice quality. Ericsson consumer research shows that voice quality provides a key differentiator between operator networks by improving subscriber retention and increasing mobile usage.“We have demonstrated the first high-definition CDMA voice call in the world over an Ericsson network utilizing the new EVRC-NW 3GPP2 standard codec and ensuring interoperability with existing functionality while easing the rollout of future wideband services.” says Surya Bommakanti, Vice President, Product Area Core, BU CDMA Mobile Systems, Ericsson. “This is the starting point of a voice quality revolution that will significantly enhance CDMA networks as we know them today.”The Ericsson CDMA development team in collaboration with Qualcomm Incorporated has reached this important milestone by successfully completing HD voice calls in a lab environment on a CDMA voice network.Ericsson is continuously enhancing its CDMA product portfolio to bring superior voice capabilities to market for the benefit of CDMA subscribers and operators. |
Posted: 19 Mar 2011 02:36 AM PDT LucidLogix Virtu in action and it discrete graphics and Sandy Bridge together at last.LucidLogix brings the ability to save power when you don't need the power of a discrete GPU and of course the option to use Intel's Quick Sync technology for transcoding or encoding video……..
LucidLogix has made the Virtu GPU virtualization software available to motherboard manufacturers in order to allow them to test it out and maybe decide to bundle it with their upcoming LGA 1155-supporting motherboards.Virtu allows automatic graphics switching on desktops powered by Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors. What Virtu basically does is assign tasks either to the CPU-integrated graphics or the available discrete GPU from either Nvidia or AMD, depending on needs. The only major requirement to allow for all this is to have a motherboard with a display output, which means P67 boards are no good.Virtu Lucid GPU virtualization software is able to assign tasks in real time to the best available graphics resource based on power, performance and features considerations, with no need for additional hardware. If high graphics performance is needed for applications like high-resolution 3D games, the system will assign the job to the discrete GPU. If not, the discrete GPU automatically goes into idle mode, while heat drops, fan speed slows down and GPU utilization goes down to zero, resulting in power-efficient system no matter how powerful it is.
The technology is designed for the latest Intel's Core i3/i5/i7 microprocessors with Sandy Bridge core as well as AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce DirectX 11-class graphics processing units. The company did not specify with exact GPUs are supported. One of the compulsory system requirement is to always connect the display screen directly to the motherboard's Sandy Bridge display output (DVI, HDMI, etc). Another one is the usage of Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.Nvidia Corp. in 2010 unveiled its Optimus technology, which dynamically switches between integrated Intel Core i graphics engine and Nvidia GeForce DX11-class graphics processors based on applications that are loaded at the moment. The technology helps to improve battery lives of notebooks and is currently not used on desktop computers.
Advanced Micro Devices also has PowerXpress, which is a similar, but a less flexible, technology ATI PowerXpress allows notebook users to manually or automatically switch between an ATI Mobility Radeon HD discrete graphics processor and an integrated core of AMD M780G with ATI Radeon HD 3200 chipset without rebooting their notebook and plans to introduce a more advanced dynamic graphics switching technology for its mobile platforms featuring code-named Llano accelerated processing units. The technology will also allow to run integrated and standalone GPUs at the same time to boost performance.LucidLogix Virtu essentially enables mobile technologies from AMD and Nvidia on desktop using proprietary software. It remains to be seen how successful will technology become. Not a lot of people try to cut power consumption of desktops and so do OEMs.LucidLogix is hoping for companies to release motherboards that utilize Virtu ‘by next quarter’ so we could expect some announcements at CeBIT 2011 (March 1-5). One name that pops up as a likely Virtu adopter is MSI as it has worked with Lucid for quite some time, integrating the Hydra/Hydralogix chip in Big Bang boards. Posted: 19 Mar 2011 12:35 AM PDT GM has now decided to call the mirror OnStar FMV and it will act like a hands-free device and allows you to get other blue button functionality, including turn-by-turn directions and emergency assistance.OnStar FMV gets a new free external microphone which provides best-in-class audio quality………
OnStar‘s new retail product will be called OnStar FMV and include an external microphone for best-in-class voice quality comparable to the aftermarket Bluetooth speakerphones and OnStar systems integrated into new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac cars, trucks and crossovers.OnStar FMV is an abbreviation of For My Vehicle which will bring the industry-leading safety, security and convenience of OnStar to 90 million vehicles already on the road when it goes on sale for $299 this summer.OnStar FMV offers the same core features that have made OnStar the most trusted and popular safety, security and communications service for more than 6 million subscribers.Automatic Crash Response, triggered by an accelerometer in the OnStar FMV mirror, connects the vehicle to a trained OnStar emergency advisor in the event of a crash. The advisor can provide the exact location of the crash to emergency responders using the mirror’s GPS location, even if the vehicle’s occupants are unable to respond.
Turn-by-Turn navigation, OnStar‘s most-popular service is accessible with a press of OnStar‘s blue button. The driver asks the advisor for directions for a specific address or location, such as a gas station or restaurant. Directions are downloaded to OnStar FMV, which provides spoken turn-by-turn instructions to the destination.Security services include Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance, which also uses OnStar FMV‘s global positioning satellite location. Roadside assistance is a blue button push away. A red button is for emergency assistance or situations such as witnessing a collision or a crime in progress.OnStar FMV provides two choices for hands-free calling: through the OnStar service itself, or through a Bluetooth connection to a mobile phone. The external microphone, which tucks neatly into the roofline or above the overhead console, gives the best-possible voice quality – while the driver keeps hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. The external microphone replaces an embedded microphone in the original design.
The roster of vehicle makes and models compatible with OnStar FMV continues to grow. OnStar has now validated 90 million vehicles manufactured in the last 10 years as compatible with OnStar FMV – up from 55 million when the product was announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show in January.“OnStar FMV meets the same rigorous standards for safety, reliability and performance we’ve developed in 15 years of producing and perfecting OnStar for GM vehicles,” said Greg Ross, vice president of Business Extensions at OnStar. “Drivers of Fords, Toyotas and other vehicles now have the unique ‘blue button’ OnStar experience that brings together the best of technology with the best of person-to-person customer service.”OnStar is continuing to actively recruit retailers to carry OnStar FMV, which will sell for $299. Installation, which consists of replacing the existing rearview mirror with the OnStar FMV, is expected to take less than an hour and cost less than $100. A range of service plans will be available for OnStar FMV, starting at $18.95 a month or $199 a year. To Buy Click On Ads: |

Apple To Launch Revamped MobileMe in April Posted: 18 Mar 2011 10:40 PM PDT iLounge have reported that Apple is planning to launch the revamped MobileMe services next month. The new version will add cloud-storage which could mean a shift towards a cloud-based media locker system from which i-device owners can access their photos, music, and movies from anywhere via the internet. Apple is set to announce a new, free version of MobileMe next month, according to a trusted iLounge source. The source, who works for a major educational institution, claims the school's supplier has said the current version of MobileMe is no longer available, and that Apple is suggesting new students sign up for the 60-day trial to cover the gap between the final MobileMe shipment and the launch of the new version. In addition, the source was told that Apple will be supporting the existing version of MobileMe for the next year, suggesting that the new version will be quite different from the existing service; the extra year of support would likely cover those who recently paid for a full year of MobileMe, prior to Apple removing any method through which a user could pay for the service. Apple is expected to hold an iOS 5 event sometime in April and this would be a perfect time to also unveil the new MobileMe. The new service is said to be more cloud-based with a "locker" that stores your media. The service will potentially even connect to your iTunes library to provide streaming to iOS devices from the cloud. |

iPhone Users Complain Poor Battery Life After iOS 4.3 Upgrade Posted: 18 Mar 2011 10:13 PM PDT Some iPhones and iPads users who have updated their device to IOS 4.3 complain that the battery life significantly decreased. This update brings with it a host of new features and enhancements to existing ones, unfortunately battery life seems to have taken a drastic hit in the process. Some users are seeing their battery life drop as much as 20% after installing the update. The cause of the problem is still unknown. Apple also has not responded to the complaints and is not clear how widespread the problem is. It is possible that Safari may be using too much power now that it is using the new Nitro Javascript engine. Others believe it may have something to do with Apple's latest Ping notification system, which runs continuously in the background. Apple recently released a security update for the desktop version of Safari. The mobile version of Safari is also expected to see the same security update in the near future. Hopefully, Apple will be able to address the latest battery woes that many users are now experiencing with the next iOS update. |
iPhone 5 Prototypes Spotted Again By Foxconn Posted: 18 Mar 2011 09:57 PM PDT It seems that the rumor about the iPhone 5 will never stop before release. This time rumors have came from a reliable source from Foxconn. They has provided information to the folks over at 9to5Mac regarding the upcoming iPhone 5. A leaked image of the prototype of iPhone 5 which shows that its design will almost the same like iPhone 4 but the back cover will be made of aluminum, whereas the iPhone 4 has a back cover made up of glass. According to 9to5Mac, a source from Foxconn is claiming that the iPhone 5 prototypes has already been seen at Foxconn and is soon going into the mass production stages. In terms of design, the iPhone 5 is said to look fairly similar to the iPhone 4 except for two very important differences: materials and screen size. Apple was previously mentioned to likely change the rear part of the iPhone 5 to aluminum instead of glass which was used in the first generation iPhone devices or to adopt the design similar to the iPod Touch 4G which was slightly curvy. The design change might be because of many users reporting a lot of issues like scratches on the rear glass surface. The iPhone 5 is likely to be released in either June or July at WWDC 2011 – same event as last year. |
Samsung 55-inch Glasses-free 3D TV Posted: 18 Mar 2011 12:53 PM PDT Samsung shows off 55-inch glasses-free 3D TV prototype and this 3D TV is able to accommodate nine different viewpoints for glasses-free 3D viewing and also can be switched into a 2D mode at any time which works by changing the optical refraction index of an LCD panel that sits on top of the main LCD……..
Samsung has a huge stage in the glasses-required 3D market and has a higher maket share thn all over 3D TV makers, has just demoed a new 55-inch display that doesn’t require glasses. It’s not quite a TV because right now all it can display is specifically tailored content and it has no TV connections. But that’s all stuff that could easily be added in. Getting the image to work right is the challenging part.Glasses-free 3D is also known by its more technical name of autostereoscopic 3D which is works by incorporating thousands of tiny mirrors into the display itself, so that images on a flat screen can appear to have depth. The new 3D LCD TV has a function to switch between 2D and 3D modes. The TV is equipped with an LCD panel whose optical refraction index can be changed in front of an LCD panel used for displaying images. The first LCD panel functions as a lens and shows different images to the right and left eyes. And when the optical refraction index of the first LCD panel is not changed, the TV shows 2D images. The specifications of the LCD panel for displaying images are as follows. Its pixel count, brightness and contrast ratio are 1,920 x 1,080 (full HD), 500cd/m2 and 4,000:1. It uses a direct-lit CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlight unit.
