Garmin Forerunner 610 GPS Sports Watch

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 03:20 AM PDT

Garmin has announced its first ever touchscreen GPS sports watch called the Forerunner 610. Garmin has outed a number of wrist-mounted trainers over the years, but the new Forerunner 610 is its first touchscreen model. It's also a bit more attractive than previous members of the Forerunner line.

The 610 is a wearable GPS device that features a sensitive, water resistant touch screen that lets users navigate menus with simple taps and slides of the finger. The touch screen can also be operated with gloves despite being button-less on its face while sporting three edge buttons.

The wrist-bound device tracks pace, distance and time as well as heart rate. A vibration function and audio tones act as highlighters of heart rate, pace and distance intervals for tracking performance without having to look down at the watch.

A history of performance including calories burnt, average pace and previous times are all located in a simple dedicated menu.

Added features top the deal, like a feature that measure the impact of the user’s run on aerobic fitness. There’s also the ability to race against other runners and previous times with the Virtual Racer function that lets users compete against data downloaded from Garmin Connect.

Garmin Forerunner 610 GPS sports watch should be available Q2 2011 and suggested retail price of $349.99.

Report: No iPad 3 This Year

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 11:07 PM PDT

According to DigiTimes report, Apple is unlikely to release an iPad 3 in 2011. DigiTimes cites Apple's component suppliers in stating that the idea of an iPad 3 with a Retina Display launching this year is likely just "wishful thinking and misreporting." The site maintains that Apple has not yet placed any orders for a new iPad to be released this year and if it does, it will likely be a minor upgrade, possibly adding 4G support to the tablet.

Sources from touch panel makers pointed out that Apple recently released its latest tablet PC plan and is asking the panel makers to provide products that are capable to support higher image quality than the current iPad 2 and Apple may even choose AMOLED panel or panel that support Full HD standard to accomplish the plan. However, since the project is still at the initial planning stage, the actual products are unlikely to appear in 2011.

Another big rumor for the iPad 3 was that it will sport a Retina Display. While it’s likely it will, it’s not likely an iPad with a Retina Display will appear this year. Sources told Digitimes that while Apple has been asking touchscreen panel makers to provide screens that can provide higher resolutions than the current iPad 2 screen, the project is still in the “initial planning stage” and thus unlikely to appear in 2011.

As for the iPad 3 rumor, the sources from upstream component makers pointed out that the new rumored device should be an upgrade version of iPad 2 or an iPad 2 version that supports different communication format. Since Apple just released its iPad 2 in early March and is ready to start mass shipping, launching the iPad 3 would simply bite off share from its iPad 2.

The sources pointed out that they have not yet received any notice for next generation iPad products and do not believe iPad 2 is a transitional product. With iPad 2′s strong shipment order forecast from Apple, the sources believe iPad 3 will not appear in the short term.

Apple Launched Final Cut Pro X

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:47 PM PDT

Apple has introduced a new version of the Final Cut suite at the Final Cut Pro Supermeet during NAB 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latest version of the hugely popular video editing software adds support for 64-bit processors and can now take advantage of more than 4GB of RAM.

Apple says Final Cut Pro X has been rewritten from the ground up, with support for 64-bit, a user-interface redesign, and a whole host of new features. The software takes advantage of core Mac OS X features like Cocoa, Core Animation, Open CL, and Grand Central Dispatch to speed up and fine-tune performance.

In addition to a complete UI overhaul, Final Cut Pro X boasts a newly designed floating point linear color system, up-to-4K-resolution-independent playback, a magnetic timeline for keeping audio and video in sync, Compound Clips for easy video nesting, non-destructive color balancing, automatic audio cleanup, and Smart Collections for organizing clips.

The new software has additionally borrowed a trick or two from Apple’s consumer-level video editing software, iMovie: It now supports full background rendering—"the render dialogue is gone!" said Apple video architect Peter Steinauer—and an inline precision editor. It also sports the same automatic face detection (single or group) as iMovie or and the ability to identify shots (medium, wide, or close-up).

Features

* Now 64-bit, with OpenCL support
* All editing native – no transcoding (for supported formats incl. H264, I assume)
* New UI (screenshots forthcoming) with "magnetic timeline" and new clip sync method
* Resolution independent playback system
* Handles up to 4K
* Uses Grand Central Dispatch to utilize all your cores
* Fully color-managed (ColorSync)
* Media ready for editing immediately – but stabilization, audio and shutter correction, shot detection and preliminary color balancing automatically applied during ingest
* Timecode-based keywording within clips
* Collections and "smart" collections of media based on metadata and analysis, presented in iMovie filmstrip style
* Auto-syncing clips via audio waveform analysis (very nice if it works as advertised)
* Automated color-matching between clips

Final Cut Pro X will be available this June from the Mac App Store for $299.

New iTable Features Speakers and iPod Dock To Charge Your iDevice

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:10 PM PDT

Among all Apple's designs the latest one has created by designer Kyle Buckner and is one of the coolest designs that have seen so far, the iTable. The table is designed to be used as a coffee table, and features a dock for your iPhone or iPod, and also has some built in speakers, which rise from the table.

A quick swipe on the surface of the table will either show or hide the iPod dock, and it stealthily moves into and out of view. It’s also packing a set of four aluminum-trimmed cup holders, complete with LED lights to give your drinks a little mood lighting of their own. The thing’s all hand-crafted, and while it was designed with the iPhone 4 in mind, it can be built to fit your smartphone of choice.

The table controls are all touch sensitive, have a look at the video of it in action below.

Mac OS X Lion Dev Preview 2 Adds Graphite Appearance Option

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 09:33 PM PDT

Mac OS X Lion Dev Preview 2 which initial appearance color was "Blue" bу default has already outed for the registered developers through the Mac App Store. Now it has added Graphite color in its appearance option. The first Developer Preview disabled the ability to adjust the window appearance colors, which led some to believe an entirely new UI would appear at the Lion public debut.

Along the same lines, several Mac sites are reporting that Lion is moving away from Aqua in favor of a more modern finish to windows, scollbars, and buttons. Apple has removed a lot of the aqua trimmings from drop-down menus, they’ve also taken the pill-shaped aqua buttons and given them a more flat, rectangular appearance.

iDesktopVR for iPhone is Available in The App Store

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:31 PM PDT

Yesterday i’ve reported about a new 3D tech demo that utilizes the iPad 2′s camera to do 3D head tracking. Now the concept was ported to the iPhone, but publicly and is using the accelerometer just to demonstrate what the app will be like with a few differences. iDesktopVR is a free app downloadable on the App Store that is an adaption of Johnny Chung Lee's WiiDesktopVR for the Nintendo Wii.

The guys over at JailbreakMovies were first to pick up on the similarities of iDesktopVR and have provided the following video showing off the app's functionality.

The funny thing is it really wasn't a quick composition like other blogs say because the app was originally posted December, 28, 2009 and has no relation to the demo we had seen previously because it is actually just a adaptation of the WiiDesktopVR app. Here is a video of iDesktopVR:

The End of Content Ownership and Beginning of Cloud Age

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 01:33 PM PDT

It has been a while since we came to know about the cloud concept. But most of the internet users kind of failed to fully comprehend it. Even the ones who thought they have comprehended it may still be confused if asked what they understand by cloud.

The idea was to use every available resource nearby to serve the purpose that would otherwise need to be served by a remote resource holder. If it sounds too technical, then maybe this can help: cloud computing would take the nearest computer as a source to provide you with what you want instead of using the original computer located thousands of miles away.

If your neighbor has downloaded the same news video you were looking for, then a possible cloud computing can be when you try to download it too, it will be downloaded from your neighbor's computer to yours. That way, the ultimate usage would benefit from misuse of resources which could have been prevented.

So far what it seems like there would be a lot of streaming or internet activity if the cloud idea is implemented everywhere. Since there would be no local storage, we sure will not have to worry about running out of disk space every time we download bigger video files. HD video files are very large ones compared to regular ones. So if you are watching the video using cloud, then it would mean downloading it again when you want to watch it.

The question is, will it really be helpful to use so much data? Doctors are already raising concerns that the radiations are affecting our natural living. If our already digital lifestyles contain more data transfer by any means, wire or wireless that would probably contribute to some future health hazards. Paying for contents every time is just another face of the problem. But there are benefits that need time to surpass the issues before cloud and cessation of content ownership comes to regular practice.

Facebook Will Develop An Ad Network Just Like Google

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 01:27 PM PDT

Facebook has been the biggest competitor for Google for a while now. The way Facebook is gaining popularity among internet users is fascinating. There was a time when people used to spend more time on Google than Facebook. But it seems that the time has changed.

With the increasing number of users on this social media giant, the search behemoth is having a hard time dealing with the numbers. Recently leaked news has reasons to make Google officials sweat a bit more: Facebook is launching its own ad platform soon. Google was getting all the ad revenues and had few competitors. It was a lot like monopoly and people had nothing to do about it. Facebook is already a great challenge for Google and this introduction of Facebook ads on other websites would definitely affect Google's monopolistic business.

The amount of control Google have gained over the past decade is incredible. You can see ads provided by Google almost everywhere on the internet. It is like the only means to get your face advertised on the internet. Google was earning a lot of revenue through it. People who had websites would use this feature called Google Adsense to increase the income from their sites.

Especially the blog owners were eager to get Adsense ads on their sites. Other webmasters had little other options that would give them similar returns in terms of revenue. The regularity of payment was debated along with the reliability.

A lot of people claim that their Adsense account was blocked for no reason at all. And their support is also said to be very inadequate. With Facebook ads, the web will definitely look a lot more different. Maybe Larry Page is sweating already. While Google has the power of the most popular search engine and email service, other reasons for choosing would be to make this experience socially available.
